Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF)
Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) is the parent body of 16 milk unions across Karnataka. The first dairy cooperative began in 1955 at Kudige, Kodagu. Established in 1974 as Karnataka Dairy Development Corporation (KDDC) with support from World Bank, it was renamed KMF in 1984. Today, KMF is India’s second-largest milk cooperative after Amul, marketing products like milk, curd, ghee, butter, ice cream and sweets under the brand name of Nandini.

Chamarajanagar District Co-operative Milk Producers Union (CHAMUL) was formed in 2015 after bifurcation from Mysore Milk Union. Initially functioning with Mysore till 2019, CHAMUL has since grown independently. With ₹31 crores grant from the Karnataka Government, ₹50 crores loan from NDDB’s DIDF, and its own capital, CHAMUL has set up a modern automated dairy plant at the total cost of ₹133 crores.
CHAMUL Dairy Plant
The main dairy plant of CHAMUL at Kuderu is spread across 40 acres. Started operations from 1st April 2019 with milk processing capacity of 3 lakh litres per day (LLPD), expandable up to 5 LLPD. It houses a 2 LLPD automated Ultra High Temperature (UHT) unit, along with 5 LLPD Water and Effluent Treatment Plants.
The plant is equipped with advanced machinery with the capacity of packaging 40,000 litres of milk and 6,000 kg of curd per day. The dairy plant also includes a Continuous Butter Making unit producing 800 kgs per hour, and ghee packing machines with a combined capacity of producing 1,920 packs per hour.

Procurement and Input Activities
Chamarajanagar milk union (CHAMUL) has 494 registered milk producers societies (MPCS) in which 10,084 are registered members and 31,243 are pouring and 463 are functional out of which 377 are general MPCS and 86 are women led MPCS. 382 MPCS collect milk through automatic milk collection units. The union procures 2.58 litres of milk per day on average for smooth operation of procurement and input activities. 5 sub offices are established at Chamarajanagar, Hanur, Gundlupete, Kollegal and Yalandur.
To support farmers, CHAMUL provides affordable cattle feed, mineral mixtures, and supplements. It is the first union to procure milk solely through BMCs, with all societies covered under Cluster Artificial Insemination (AI) Centers.
To provide essential nutrients to cattle to improve their health and productivity leading to better milk yields and fat content CHAMUL is distributing cattle feeds that are manufactured by Nandini cattle feed plants to its milk producers through Mpcs

CHAMUL as established 5 emergency routes to continuously provide medical assistance to cattle health of its milk producers there are 71 AI centre in which Artificial Insemination process are done by trained AI workers.

A security section is a dedicated unit responsible for protecting the organization’s assets and people from various threats. It encompasses physical, and personnel security to prevent unauthorized access, theft, and other harm, ensuring the confidentiality, integrity.
CHAMUL markets an average of 60,000 litres of milk per day and 12,000 Kgs of curd per day through 24 distribution routes, supplying 431 agent shops, 5 parlors, 4 outlets and 2 cold storage centers. The “Nandini on Wheels” vehicle promotes products across the district, especially in rural areas and during public events like Jatras and Utsavas, boosting brand visibility and sales.
